I have been participating in this hobby since an inspiring scuba trip to the Keys in 1978. My first marine tank was a 29 gallon and I must admit it was a fish killing system. I have had numerous reef adventures, some good, some bad, but with the improvement in marine technology and information from the internet, I was able to gradually progress to a 120 gallon tank. Seven years ago Steve Sheremeta introduced me to NFMAS. I have met many great friends with whom I love sharing experiences and knowledge in this fantastic hobby.

"I became addicted to the hobby by accident! My in-laws gave me a 55g saltwater tank they could never keep fish alive in. I set it up with the tackiest collection of fake coral around! After one year of success keeping the fake
corals and fish I purchased a 265g setup. Just before it was delivered I found NFMAS and attended my first club meeting, from which I came home with two little
sps frags! Needless to say I've been hooked ever since!"

My name is Jana and I'm the club secretary. I've been in the hobby now for about five years. I started out small with a 40 gallon tank that I soon upgraded to a 90 gallon mixed reef. Like everyone in this hobby I've had my ups and downs, but with the help and advice from club members over the years I'm still going strong.

Originally I became involved with marine aquaria by pure accident. I bought a 46 gallon bow front along with african cichlids for my two daughters. Needless to say they all died within a week (the fish that is...). From there, I decided to get into salt water. How hard could it be? 8+ years later I have a 360 gallon & 125 gallon reef tank. Personally, I split my time pretty evenly between being an IT consultant and a professional photographer.
